Fall Interior Design Updates for Your Home

THE AIR IS CRISP; THE LEAVES ARE STARTING TO TURN; THE KIDS ARE BACK IN SCHOOL – IT’S FALL! WITH THE NEW SEASON COMES A CHANGE IN YOUR HOME, TOO. IT’S TIME TO SWITCH OUT THE SUMMER DECOR AND MAKE YOUR SPACE WARMER AND COZIER.

UPDATING YOUR HOME FOR THE SEASON DOESN’T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK. I’M SHOWING YOU A FEW SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE UPDATES TO HELP MAKE YOUR HOME PERFECT FOR FALL.

MAKE IT COZY:

When the weather gets cool, you’re going to want to snuggle up on the sofa. Try getting a few new throw blankets: warm faux fur, soft flannel, or even luxe cashmere. Artfully toss them over the arm of your sofa or roll them and place them in a basket for easy reach.

UPDATE YOUR THROW PILLOWS:

Updating your throw pillows each season is a great way to give your living room a little face lift. Use warmer, cozier fabrics like chunky knits or soft velvet. If you invest in great fall pillows now, you can store them when the holidays come and bring them out next September. Remember to avoid anything too trendy so they don’t look dated next time the season rolls around.

USE NATURE:

One of the best things about fall is the beautiful outdoor bounty! Mini pumpkins, gourds, artful branches, pine cones – you can use a plethora of inexpensive natural decor. Arrange a few cotton boll branches in a vase at your entry. Place a beautiful glass bowl on your counter and fill it with gourds and mini pumpkins.

THINK OUTSIDE THE ORANGE BOX:

If you’re not into oranges and browns, you can still enjoy fall decor! Think green and red apples on the counter, white pumpkins, eucalyptus branches, and thistle florals.

CHANGE UP YOUR BEDROOM:

Once the weather really starts to cool down, you can switch out your regular cotton sheets for cozy flannel ones. It’s always a nice idea to add a throw blanket to the foot of the bed and even some of those new throw pillows!

STOCK UP ON CANDLES:

There’s nothing more romantic than soft flickering candlelight on a cool fall evening. Stock up on inexpensive pillar candles, and place them around your home to add ambiance when it gets darker sooner.

DON’T FORGET THE OUTSIDE:

Even if you’re not Martha Stewart, you can still decorate the outside of your home in a chic way for fall. Start with a new wreath that can last you through Thanksgiving. You can find bales of hay at farmers markets or even the craft store – place a few pumpkins on it, and you’re golden!

DO A “FALL CLEANING:”

You’ve heard of spring cleaning, but I believe you should do the same for fall. Go through your summer things and thin the herd. Discard any fraying beach towels or worn-out bathing suits. Clean the cabinet of nearly-empty or expired sunscreen tubes. Donate clothing that the kids have grown out of. Clean out the cooler and rinse off the beach chairs, and neatly store them away for next year.  When you’re ready for summer next year, you’ll be starting fresh.
