Four Ways to Turn Your Bathroom into a Chic Hotel Retreat
Luxury Bathroom Design
To me, one of the best things about traveling is getting to stay in nice hotels! The plush robes, the crisp sheets, having room service at your beck and call … but most of all, the chic bathrooms! Luxury bathroom design is a specialty of Marlaina Teich Designs.
A fabulous hotel always has good guest bathrooms. Fluffy towels, plenty of toiletries, fresh flowers – it feels like being in a spa, and I love it!
When I designed this bathroom for Palm Springs’ Modernism Week, I wanted to make it luxurious – when you step inside, you can forget about the rest of the world and just relax. Luxury bathroom design is a specialty of Marlaina Teich Designs.
Here are 4 ways that you can turn your master bathroom into a luxury space worthy of a Manhattan hotel
Stock up on clean towels
Have plenty of towels available, and have fun with it! Try plush white towels near the bath, and fun printed ones near the sink. To make them look neater, roll them instead of folding them. Make sure you have enough hand towels near the sink, too.
Decorate the same way you would any other room
Just because it’s a bathroom doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful. Quite the opposite.
Add a decorative storage solution, like this lacquered green etagere. It’s functional and stylish – holding essentials like towels but also objects d’art to help liven up the space. A funky plant like the one I added here adds another element of life to the room – fresh flowers or a low-maintenance orchid works, too!
Use ambient lighting
Harsh overhead lighting is a no-no: it’s not flattering, and definitely not serene when you’re trying to take a relaxing bubble bath. A chandelier or linear suspension over the tub add soft light for when you need to de-stress. Try decorative wall lighting near the sinks – your tired early morning face will thank you.
Add something bougie
In this room, I added a lush sheepskin throw near the bath. It juxtaposes the marble walls, adding softness and a little bit of sexiness fitting of a master bath.
Don’t you just want to run your toes through it after a warm evening bath? Sheepskin throws are pretty easy to find in nearly every color, and you could opt for a real or faux sheepskin, depending on your budget and your outlook on animal products.
